The UCLA Ed & IS Office of Communications is responsible for providing strategic communications support for the school, our faculty, and research centers. Under the general direction of the UCLA Ed & IS Sr. Director of Marketing and Communications, and in collaboration with the schools’ Educational Technology Unit (ETU), the Website Content Administrator will oversee the programming requirements, software development and maintenance, and digital communication technology for the School of Education and Information Studies. This position will be responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining moderately complex computer-based administrative information systems serving the school in addition to ensuring all UCLA digital policies are upheld. The Website Content Administrator will play a vital role in maintaining and managing the school website to meet numerous stakeholder needs as well as providing technological supervision and management of all digital systems utilized in the Office of Communications. The Website Content Administrator is responsible for working with a variety of programming languages and tools to create, manage, and maintain software across different computer systems. They use both compiled and interpreted languages, along with systems utilities and relational database tools, to ensure the software runs smoothly and efficiently on multiple platforms. Their role involves understanding and integrating different technologies to meet the needs of diverse computing environments. Other responsibilities include developing new functionality for the Ed&IS website to meet marketing/brand goals while working independently with minimal instruction, accepting and proposing viable options to challenging circumstances, taking the initiative to solve problems where solutions are not always apparent and prioritizing tasks while working in the midst of frequent interruptions. The Website Content Administrator will ensure the functionality, security, and efficiency of a complex software web infrastructure while also debugging issues and updating website content, as well as overseeing the analytics of the website and its outreach, per the direction of the Ed&IS Office of Communications and the Dean’s office. The Website Content Administrator will oversee and train all individuals within units and centers managing website content across the School of Ed&IS in industry practices, department standards, and departmental policies and procedures for their independent websites as well as functional infrastructure pages to ensure continuity of practice and uniformity across all communications platforms for the school. This position will provide training, troubleshooting, and consultation for web and media related matters to faculty, and infrastructure staff requirements. The Website Content Administrator will provide the Sr. Director of Communications and the dean’s leadership with recommendations to improve technological communication standards as well as any changes in system standards, needed maintenance, and creation of software specifications to ensure university compliance and enhance cyber security. The Web Content Administrator will stay abreast of new communications technologies to ensure Ed&IS communications systems stay modernized with the ever-changing digital communications landscape. This is a highly collaborative position, so excellent teamwork and communication skills are vital. The Web Content Administrator should be comfortable communicating with school leadership, teammates, other departments, projects and center leaders, faculty, students, staff, and program partners.
Salary & Compensation: *UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. - 3+years Managing websites, including proficiency with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and CMS platforms. (Required)
- Strong organizational skills and is able to balance competing priorities and support concurrent projects. Experience working in a project-based environment using leading project management practices including schedule management, status reporting, and communication of project risks and issues. (Required)
- Advanced knowledge of content management systems, specifically Wordpress sites. Advanced knowledge of HTML, JavaScript, Cascading style sheets and nuances of different web browsers on Mac and Windows platforms. (Required)
- Demonstrated knowledge of CGI, PHP and SQL to maintain current web applications and to develop new ones. (Required)
- Advanced knowledge of Macintosh and MS Windows productivity applications including, but not limited to full Adobe Creative Suite of programs, Authorware, HyperStudio, Premiere, iMovie. (Required)
- Knowledge of security practices in relationship to several Microsoft / OSX operating systems, desktop and server, as well as related programming and web-based technologies. (Includes ability to secure web-based applications, servers, user data, connect. (Required)
- Demonstrated knowledge of information architecture and design: layout, graphic production, typography, navigation, indexing, etc. concise, logical, grammatically correct documents and training materials. (Required)
- Skill to effectively train faculty and staff as new or experienced users in project applications and materials. (Required)
- Ability to design and develop web-related instructional materials and workshops for small groups of new and experienced users. Education, Licenses, Certifications, & Professional Affiliations:
- Bachelor’s Degree In information technology, computer science, public administration, business administration, communications, or related field and/or equivalent experience/training. (Required)
