Join our team as an Employment Relations Specialist within the Division of Personnel Management. This position will provide support to the State’s second largest agency, the Department of Health Services (DHS), with more than 6,500 employees.
We have a fast-paced dynamic team that works hard and has fun! We offer a supportive and collaborative work environment, team-oriented atmosphere with a flexible work schedule which includes core work hours of 9am to 3pm Monday through Friday. This position provides the flexibility of a hybrid office remote work schedule with majority of time offered as remote. This schedule may vary, or change based on training or operational need.

This position has the ability to work remotely up to 5 days per week but will be required to report to the office location at the DHS State Office Building (1 West Wilson Street, Madison, WI) on occasion to complete certain tasks. 1 West Wilson Street is in the heart of downtown Madison, near the State Capitol, the Madison Metro route, and the Capital City bike path. In addition, there are plenty of nearby restaurants, shopping venues, and the Wednesday farmers’ market.
This position provides consultation in the administration of all employment relations activities for the assigned work units in DHS. Responsibilities include coaching and mentoring management through the disciplinary investigation process, administering grievance processes, assisting with gathering information on Wisconsin Employment Relations Commission (WERC) cases and Wisconsin Equal Rights Division (WERD) cases, providing guidance on performance management issues, and the interpretation of work unit and State of Wisconsin policies and procedures, state statutes, and administrative codes governing all employment relations functions.
This position will also provide program oversight and support to Human Resources professionals located in satellite offices throughout the state. The position will assist with training within their assigned work units and participate in the State of Wisconsin’s workforce relations committee.
The starting pay is between $36.75 and $42.00 per hour (approximately between $76,400 and $87,300 per year) depending on qualifications, plus excellent benefits.
Pay for current or former employees is based on the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. The position is in pay schedule and range 81/03. A 12-month probationary period is required.
