Job Overview:
Speak! Language Center, a 20 year-old language company, seeks a European Portuguese language expert and instructor to help create and teach online courses to adults traveling or moving to Portugal. Our courses will combine live online lessons with a teacher and lots of asynchronous work on the platform, too.
Ideal candidates will be from Portugal and have an interest and experience in curriculum design for adult English language speakers. Portuguese linguists and travel enthusiasts who are passionate about sharing their language and culture and with an entrepreneurial spirit will be most welcome to apply. Once our courses are launched, there will be ample online teaching opportunities using the curriculum we design!!
Duties and Skills (Required or Preferred):
– Work with fellow Portuguese course creators to develop and deliver engaging lesson plans and instructional materials for online delivery, including content for slide presentations and working in our online platform/Learning Management System.
– Be able to meet deadlines and work with a team
– Facilitate interactive and hands-on learning activities
– Support our marketing efforts via content creation for blogs, social platforms, etc.
– Expertise and activity on social media a plus
– Ideally, help us connect with potential travel partners in Portugal (i.e. tour operators, language schools)
– Collaborate with colleagues to enhance curriculum and teaching methods
Qualifications:
– Bachelor’s degree or graduate degree in Portuguese language, literature, culture or similar.
– At least 5 years of previous teaching or instructional experience preferred, ideally at adult or university level.
– Tourism or tour guide experience a plus
– Strong knowledge of the subject matter
– Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (English and Portuguese)
– Patience and ability to work with diverse groups of students, typically English-speaking North Americans
– Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
