Duties
If selected for this position, you will serve as a technician in the area of financial litigation and isresponsible for directly and independently supporting Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) by providing a wide variety of technical assistance services. The work requires a specialized knowledge of the processes and practices of debt collection regulations and procedures, as well as a high degree of technical skill and precision. The incumbent performs a wide range of technical support duties involving the processing of cases within the financial litigation function.
Duties involve using a variety of automated systems to conduct research, initiate documents for debt collection actions and track debtor accounts. In a developmental capacity, incumbent performs work designed to increase their skills and knowledge required to perform higher level financial litigation technician duties. Duties may include:
Using common online resources, obtains and analyzes routine financial information on debtors to determine their present and future potential ability to pay.
Communicating with debtors to present options for debt payments, answer questions, explain pertinent procedures, clarify information, and work cases to resolution.
Conducting skip tracing activity when necessary to locate debtors, using your own discretion in determining those techniques and any follow up needed to locate the debtor.
Preparing payment plans which involve reviewing financial asset information the debtor has submitted.
Performing periodic internal control audits of financial litigation and debt collection case records to ensure accuracy of program operations.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

You must be a United States Citizen or National.
Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation

Qualifications
GS-06: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in Federal service.
Specialized experience is defined as: Using software and standardized templates to generate letters and routine pleadings; docketing enforcement and collection activity; assisting in opening and closing financial litigation case files; or coordinating with external entities to enforce and collect judgments.
GS07: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-6 level in Federal service.
Specialized experience is defined as: using common online resources to obtain and analyze routine financial information on debtors to determine their ability to pay and to assist with the enforcement and collection of judgments or debts; reviewing and analyzing claims for legal merit and compliance with collection policies and procedures; initiating contact with debtors and negotiating written payment schedules; entering and tracking financial data in automated systems and spreadsheets to track debtors account status and payment transactions; or independently recognizing the need for and preparing routine documentation such as notices, writs, and demand letters.
GS 08: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level in Federal service.
Specialized experience is defined as: proficiency developing, analyzing, and evaluating financial information on debtors; conducting factual research regarding civil and criminal debtors; initiating contact with debtors concerning their payment obligations; conducting skip tracing activity; reviewing and analyzing claims for legal merit and compliance with collection policies and procedures; reviewing financial asset information and preparing payment plans accordingly; enforcing and collecting judgments; providing technical advice and training to new and/or lower graded employees; or participating in decisions concerning post judgement remedies such as garnishments and judgment debtor examinations.
Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
