DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Conduct outreach and engagement with service providers and network members to characterize and gather data to inform response efforts to identified HIV networks and/or areas of concern.
• Select community organizations for high level partnership through Rapid Ethnographic Assessment, who will assist with community response strategies.
• Interview patients/clients and others connected to the case to ensure they receive appropriate medical attention and information about prevention and care services.
• Apply specialized investigation and intervention techniques to high-risk and/or non-compliant individuals. This may include travel to high-risk areas.
• Works closely with the Emerging HIV Networks Coordinator, HIV Care Epidemiologist, HIV Evaluation Specialist on HIV network detection and response efforts.
• Maintain and protect confidential and sensitive health information, including but not limited to field investigation records, interview records, partner services (PS) records, and other sensitive information that must be handled and stored in a secure manner according to established procedures.
• Utilize the Michigan Disease Surveillance System (MDSS) and other health records to manage case investigations related to identified networks.
• Analyze and thematic code qualitative data using qualitative software such as NVIVO and create summary reports and data dissemination products.
• Provide technical assistance and consultation to other departmental areas in need of qualitative research and interviewing services.
• Always represent the best interests of MDHHS and MPHI.
• Other duties as assigned by the Unit Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

Experience: Three years of professional experience in public health. Two years of experience working with people living with HIV and community engagement. Familiarity with qualitative interviewing and methods. Basic computer skills, e.g., MS Office Suite.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This position will be both in-person as well as remote for certain meetings and interviews. Occasional travel to the office located at Lansing/Detroit may be required. Travel will be required to community partners and participants across the State of Michigan. Requires valid vehicle operator’s license where needed to perform duties of the position. Local, state and out-of- state travel may be required. Candidates should confirm work location and schedule at the time of interview.
